Hike to Panauti from Sanga, through a unique route on the edge of the Kathmandu Valley where you will encounter nature, locals and their culture. Starting from the Sanga, a Brahmin community, the hike takes you through rolling farmland and ethnic Tamang villages, with fantastic views across hills and mountains. The hike ends at Panauti, a well preserved Newari town.

Community Hike Sanga to Panauti – What you will do
The 10-kilometre Sanga to Panauti Community Hike is an easy-to-moderate trail that has only recently been developed, so doesn’t see many visitors. On reaching Sanga (home to one of the tallest Shiva statue in the world), the hike starts cutting off from the highway, via an off the beaten path. This lesser traveled route takes you along some beautiful scenery and gives you a glimpse of village life in Nepal.

The hike for most part is easy going making it suitable for anyone with moderate fitness. Walking along the ridges, you will pass through farm houses and terraces of fields glinting in the sun in the valley below and the views of majestic Himalayas in the backdrop. An interesting feature of the area through which the trail passes is that the people living here are mostly Tamang farmers, this contrasts with the Newari culture of Panauti, which you will discover when you get there.

The descent into Panauti is a particularly attractive part of the trail and you’ll end the hike venturing into the old quarters of the town. Once there you can also stop by Panauti community homestay and enjoy a hearty home cooked meal to end your day. The hike can also be done in the opposite direction, from Panauti to Sanga.
